Meet the artist

Paul Gaughan

My paintings reflect things I believe in: Color, imagination, happiness and curiosity. I hope to create a bit of wonder and thought. Abstractionism is just that, something that is readily evident in my work. I have always loved going to what is now the AKG and other galleries around the world for inspiration and influence. I use larger brushes, palettes, wood, sponges and I sometimes throw paint as a style on the canvas. I prefer large pieces however, occasionally do smaller ones. I have raised my family in Hamburg for over 40 years. I became interested in painting while attending Nichols School. After I retired in 2019 from my career as Commissioner of Jurors in the Eighth Judicial District for New York State I decided to get back into it. I am a Trustee in the Village of Hamburg, Deputy Mayor of the Village of Hamburg, Liaison to the Village of Hamburg Recreation Department and Hamburgh Holidays, as well as a member of Imagine Hamburg. I reside in the Village of Hamburg with my wife Chrisanne and children.
